Program Description
The Department of Animal Sciences offers programs in Master of Science, Master of Agriculture and Doctor of Philosophy. Each program is designed to provide advanced training beyond the baccalaureate degree. Upon completion, our students will be trained to conduct research, teach, and carry out extension activities in animal agriculture across the major animal species –beef, dairy, poultry, swine and equine. Requirements for the Master of Science include a research project with a minimum of 30 credit hours of which six are research credits (ANS 6971). Most students complete their master’s studies in two and a half years. The Master of Agriculture is our non-thesis option. It is primarily designed for those students who are seeking opportunities in a field where research is not required for employment. A minimum of 32 credits is required to complete this degree, and can usually be finished in one year.
